About Borgholm Bowls

Borgholm Bowls is a short mat bowls club founded in 2010, currently counting around 150 members (as of 2025) Borgholm Bowls. The highlight of their infrastructure is the Borgholm Bowls Arena, inaugurated in 2020, making it one of the first halls dedicated to bowls in the Nordics SVT NyheterBorgholm Bowls.

They serve bowls in the Short Mat format—an indoor precision sport reminiscent of boccia and boule, played by rolling biased bowls along a mat aiming to get closest to a target jack Borgholm Bowls+1.

The club started with just a handful of enthusiasts, generously supported by Borgholm’s municipality and sponsors to establish proper facilities Borgholm Bowls.

Membership & Community

• Diversity & Inclusion: Bowls is played without gender or age divisions. The club used to have mostly men, but a targeted initiative starting around three years ago grew the female participation to about 50 women out of 130 total members, with regular female-only training sessions on Wednesdays Borgholm Bowls.

• Clubs for All: They welcome beginners and experienced players alike, with opportunities to join competitions or just play socially Borgholm Bowls+1.

Social and Community Outreach

A large part of their mission involves expanding accessibility and outreach:

• The bowls hall was constructed with financial support from the Allmänna Arvsfonden, the municipality, sponsors, and significant volunteer effort Borgholm Bowlsarvsfonden.se.

• The project aimed to be fully accessible and inclusive, targeting engagement from youth and people with disabilities. It has since supported spontaneous play and organized sessions for older adults and children, as well as those with mobility issues arvsfonden.se.

• During Borgholm’s Äldreveckan (Senior Week), the arena hosted “prova på” (try-it-out) sessions for bowls and cornhole, inviting older residents to experience the sport borgholm.se.
